The Opportunity
The UX team at Root is a tight knit, collaborative group with a mission to deliver innovation and customer value. This team sits within the Product & Marketing organization and works closely with product managers, engineers, and product executives to plan and deliver new product features and experiments.
The unique opportunity of this role is to bring fresh, creative, novel thinking to an antiquated system: insurance. It’s really hard to build great products in auto insurance–take a look at your own company’s app and you’ll see for yourself. When was the last time you thought about your insurance company? To what extent do you expect or want to be delighted when you open your insurance app to pay your bill, or access your insurance card? These are the types of questions we are wrestling with, and the status quo we are missioned with disrupting.
In this role, you will collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, PMs, and engineers to craft and deliver simple and intuitive experiences to our customers. You’ll use language and apply voice and tone to help customers discover, understand, and join Root. Content Design is a new discipline within the Product Design org and you’ll be a key contributor to shaping what it means and how it functions at Root. Specifically, you will sit on a team of five Product Designers and two UX Researchers.
Root is a “work where it works best” company. This means we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US.
Please provide a PDF or web link with UX writing and strategy samples. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
Salary Range: $77,000 – $92,000 (Bonus Eligible)

Preferred but not required:
Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Root, Inc., we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway!
At Root, we judge people based on the merit of their work, not who they are. If you are passionate about what this role entails and solving real problems, we encourage you to apply. We want to learn about you and what you can add to our team.
We’re harnessing the power of technology to revolutionize insurance. Using machine learning and mobile telematic platforms, we’ve built one of the most innovative FinTech companies in the world. And we’re just getting started.
Our success is in large part due to our unwavering standards in hiring. We recognize that our products are only as good as the people building and promoting them. We want individuals who find solutions by going through the cycle of ideation to implementation with curiosity, rigor, and an analytical lens. Ask anyone who works here and you’ll hear similar reasons for why they joined:
Autonomy—for assertive self-starters, the opportunities to contribute are limitless.
Impact—by challenging the way it’s always been done, we solve problems that have a big impact on our business.
