Position description Deep understanding of the ways in which information (i.e. meaningful data) is converted into knowledge (i.e. a justified, true belief) and how they contribute to posing hypotheses, developing theories, and proposing experimental tests of new questions suggested by the theories. Identifies substantive problems where different representations, algorithms and methods can be used to inform practice; developing new representations, algorithms and methods as needed. Expert in the informatics methods used to analyze data and deep knowledge of healthcare data types, topics, approaches, and scientific challenges. Work with subject matter experts and data scientists, software developers, and knowledge engineers to architect translational solutions that derive and represent the knowledge useful to customers. Mastery in architecting newly derived knowledge into workflows. Designs or redesigns software applications to optimize data management, extraction, and analysis as required. Evaluates and optimizes analytical procedures in the framework of specific projects, group of interconnected projects, or a translational research program. Studies, develops, and applies theories, methods, and processes for the generation, storage, retrieval, use, and management of biomedical data, information, and knowledge. Critical appraisal or design of knowledge representations based on cognitive, social, or organizational theories suitable in the context of real problems, such as the analysis of genomic or clinical data in the electronic health record (EHR). Studies and develops models to translate clinical data, information and knowledge for use in complex analytics and algorithms. Develops frameworks for cataloging and indexing datasets and algorithms. Expert in the informatics methods used to analyze data and deep knowledge of healthcare data types, topics, approaches, and scientific challenges. Other responsibilities: • Advises departments on developing a strategy and new approaches for deriving information or knowledge and delivery into workflows. • Works with domain experts and/or data scientists to build new tools to address critical gaps in translating information and knowledge to meet clinical needs. • Design new translational informatics approaches, adapting them to a specific problem. Design and oversee the experiments that validate the informatics solutions. • Deep understanding of clinical or business workflows and informatics/AI impact on them. • Mastery in architecting newly derived knowledge into the clinical workflow. • Communicates required change management needs to informatics staff and customers to enable create of change management plan. Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field including but not limited to bioinformatics, clinical informatics, biomedical engineering, computer science, health science nursing, pharmacy, and other medical sciences with at least 12 graduate level semester hours in clinical or bioinformatics or seven years or more of translational informatics experience. The preferred candidate will possess a PhD or Master's degree with five years experience in a relevant field such as bioinformatics, clinical informatics, biomedical engineering, computer science, health science, or other analytical/quantitative field. The successful candidate will need to have both technical and business background/experience along with strong leadership skills. Good written and oral communication skills are required. Expertise in the use of scientific computing and data management packages. Ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate various tasks on projects. Demonstrated initiative in administration, education (seminars, training), software development, and technical reports. Demonstrated success in project management and communication skills. Develop and optimize complex environments for implementing translational solutions, with respect to the socio-economical, behavioral, and ethical considerations. Drives development of technical ecosystems to effectively leverage the data, identity and integration platforms to enable translation of health IT solutions into the practice. Core competencies in use the underlying technologies of networking, security, and cloud computing. Additional qualifications Draws upon the social, cognitive and behavioral sciences to inform the design and evaluation of informatics solutions. Proficient in human factors design principles and how to apply to clinical informatics.
