Our Digital Payments team is responsible for processing credit card payments on behalf of our restaurants. We are building the next generation of Payments API that will unlock Toast’s ability to have a single integrated payment acceptance platform across all the channels and enable a build-it-once-available-to-all enterprise approach. Our system is a set of Java Dropwizard services deployed to AWS, interacting with internal and external partners through our API. Payment processing is a key source of Toast’s revenue and also the lifeblood of our customers’ business: we process millions of dollars in transactions every day. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer focused primarily in Frontend technologies to join our team as we scale our systems to meet future demands.

As a Software Engineer you will:

• Help build highly resilient, flexible and scalable architecture
• Learn from our scaling problems, and implement solutions to those problems
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations
• Work closely with the leads to identify high-impact opportunities
• Plan, scope and rapidly prototype solutions using a combination of web technologies
• Make technical decisions and recommendations that will lay the foundation for the future of our strategy
• Stay in tune with customer needs by participating in user interviews and research

Do you have the right ingredients*?

• Bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Engineer or equivalent
• 4+ years experience building and shipping production software to customers
• Respectful, empathetic, and humble
• Experience with React or other front end Javascript frameworks
• Comfortable with testing methodologies and frameworks
• Desire to build impactful systems that are critical to customer success
• Passion for building great software on a high performing team
• Balance getting things done with making things just right
• Growth mindset with an emphasis on learning and self/team-improvement
• Ability to learn quickly within a fast paced environment and comfort with ambiguity
• Flexible in using different tech stacks and languages

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

Pay Range

$127,000—$203,000 USD
