Position Overview

The Arena Group is seeking a dynamic Senior Social Media Editor to join the team at Sports Illustrated. The ideal candidate will be a creative, proactive, and team-oriented individual with a passion for sports and popular culture. As a Senior Social Media Editor, you will play a crucial role in the growth and management of Sports Illustrated’s social media presence, including driving referral traffic, engaging with audiences, and managing content distribution. You will be responsible for creating and curating visually stunning and impactful content, using your advanced writing and editing skills to communicate Sports Illustrated’s unique voice across all platforms. Ability to work nights and weekends is mandatory.

The position (Tier 4, Social 3) is part of the collective bargaining unit represented by the New York NewsGuild. The anticipated annual salary for this position is $95,000.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Sports Illustrated’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Identify and leverage social trends, viral conversations, and communities related to sports and popular culture.
  • Drive referral traffic and grow Sports Illustrated’s social audience through engaging and impactful content.
  • Maintain Sports Illustrated’s social voice and brand across all platforms.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends and best practices to continually optimize the effectiveness of Sports Illustrated’s social media presence.
  • Create and curate visually stunning graphics, videos, and other content for breaking news and trending moments.
  • Program and optimize content for Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in a comparable role at a media organization/publisher
  • Proven track record of success in social media, with a portfolio of examples demonstrating growth in followers and traffic across different platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of the sports and popular culture landscape.
  • Fluency in all things social media, including the major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) and specific best practices for each.
  • Basic Photoshop skills, with an understanding of what makes a compelling visual on social media.
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
  • Understanding of editorial standards and ability to leverage the social voice for a well-known publisher.
  • Strong video production skills, including experience in creating and editing short form videos for TikTok and other social platforms.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and ability to excel in an evening/late night environment.
