Salary Range: $68K – $73K

Overview of the role
The Senior Associate of Social Media Community Management is vital to managing The Trevor Project’s growing social media presence as a leader in LGBTQ mental health and suicide prevention. Reporting to the Senior Social Media Manager, you will advance Trevor’s mission via social media communication. You will manage online communities, moderate conversation across platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and post comments/DMs in response to various messages on these platforms.

Who You Are

  • Experienced. You have experience delivering dedicated social media communications for a brand or organization in the past, with proven success with branded writing and audience engagement. You have proven success in creating messages for a wide variety of intersectional identities, with demonstrated awareness and sensitivity of issues impacting all of our audiences, including issues, influencers, and media that are relevant to them.
  • Collaborator. Recognized success in creating relationships with cross-functional teams from varying levels, working closely with colleagues to brainstorm ideas, discuss pros/cons, and develop ways forward.
  • Communicator. Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to audiences inside and outside of the organization, with proven results in writing short narratives with appropriate spelling and grammar, and proofing to ensure appropriate context, content, and delivery.
  • Service delivery and adaptability. Proven focus on proactive and inclusive issue resolution and continuous improvement for all systems and processes.
  • Mission and Culture Aligned: Demonstrates awareness and support for The Trevor Project’s mission and vision: to end suicide and address mental health crises in the LGBTQ youth community, and create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.
  • Creative listener. You have a mind for crafting responses that speak directly to the heart of a topic while staying within a brand voice. You listen to the feedback we receive from our audience, and the dialogues happening in the communities we serve, to gain ideas and perspective for how to better communicate with our audience.
  • Organized and efficient. You know how to get things done and feel comfortable with the fast pace of managing multiple social media platforms daily. You can communicate clearly and concisely. The moment you see a problem, you quickly come up with solutions and then implement them.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to our critical mission of ending suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people, while fostering an inclusive approach to your direct work and engagement with Trevor colleagues across the organization
  • Bring professional and lived experience working in online community management to moderate conversations and handle customer service on our social channels
  • Listen to the dialogue online and make note of any current events or issues that should inform how The Trevor Project shows up in the conversation
  • Learn new social media features as they are released by platforms and utilize them in day-to-day social media management
  • Handle daily customer service, including common volunteer and donor questions and LGBTQ youth looking for crisis services and resources
  • Track prominent fundraisers and talent outreach, connecting interested parties with our Comms team or Development team to follow up
  • Identify hot topics, breaking news, and urgent issues within The Trevor Project’s social sphere and know when/to whom to escalate a situation.
  • Support the Advocacy & Government Affairs department’s media outreach efforts by engaging our audience around current issues and calls to action
  • Own The Trevor Project’s library of responses and work alongside our social media team to ensure all external communications adhere to safe messaging standards and best practices for talking about mental health, suicide, and LGBTQ identity
  • Identify emerging influencers, micro-influencers, artists, and talent that are popular with our audience to follow and engage
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required on an on-call basis
  • Other relevant tasks, duties, or special projects as assigned

$68,000 – $73,000 a year
