Pelago’s suite of virtual services ranges from education, to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to comprehensive medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Pelago enables employers and health plans to deliver accessible, affordable, and effective treatment for substance misuse.

The Tobacco Coach is to work with members through the process of tobacco cessation, using motivational interviewing and connection through telephone calls and digital communication. This is a full-time remote role comprising 40 hours per week, allowing flexibility in working hours from 9 am to 9 pm EST. While you have the freedom to create a schedule that suits you, we ask that you work at least 2 evenings a week or 1 evening and 1 Saturday morning to align with member engagement preferences.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet needs of members as they work through quitting their nicotine habit
  • Speak to members on a weekly basis through text based chat and check-in with them to see how they are progressing on their quit journey
  • Onboard the users with an initial telephonic coaching call
  • Offer guidance on how to deal with their cravings and any difficult situations
  • Be supportive and encouraging to members to motivate them on their quit smoking journey
  • Monitor the progress of members. Help someone transform their life and the life of their family by quitting tobacco or nicotine for good
  • Collaborate with team, across departments while also being a constant team player
  • Provide a positive presence and attitude in Slack channels specifically for questions and inquiries from fellow coaches or other Pelago Departments
  • Taking on different responsibilities as delegated by your Manager e.g SOP creation, NRT ordering or other ad hoc tasks
  • Be open to side projects and collaborate closely with program development, content creation, product improvements, client success, and marketing/sales support teams when needed.
  • Take initiative in areas that need support and ingenuity especially when it comes to building and supporting the coaching team as a whole
  • Continuous professional development in areas of coaching skills and leadership
  • Provide and receive open and transparent feedback
  • Self manages time effectively and is open to a very flexible schedule.
  • Autonomous work style with technology know-how and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Crowdshare best practices on clinical engagement for broader team
  • Open to further certifications: Tobacco Treatment Specialist (Paid for by Pelago)

The background we’re looking for:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree in health related field (Experience in Tobacco Cessation is preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of coaching experience or have your NBHWC certification (TTS Certification is a preferred)
  • Proficient with evidence-based coaching practices such as Motivational Interviewing
  • Able to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals from different disciplines, including coaches, counselors, physicians and nurses
  • Ability to adapt to fast-changing environments
  • Ability to prioritize competing work demands
  • Strong culture builder especially in remote environments
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Technologically proficient and able to swiftly adapt to technological developments
