Red Ventures is looking for a Managing Editor to lead a team of editors and writers focused on identifying data, trends and news that resonate with consumers and media. This person will be instrumental in expanding our use of proprietary data across our Editorial team.

In this position, you will work closely with our Authority Building Team to coordinate data-driven projects, identify new use cases for proprietary consumer survey data, and help drive Bankrates coverage of the Federal Reserve and economy. You will also work closely with our broader Editorial team to enable their use of Bankrates vast proprietary data. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with data and establishing processes to ensure the accuracy, reliability and integrity of data used in content.

What Youll Do:

  • Plan, coordinate and execute data-driven journalism projects, such as our Emergency Savings Report and Best States to Retire
  • Use statistical tools and techniques to analyze and interpret data to uncover insights and trends
  • Edit and/or review content produced by your direct team, inclusive of data journalism as well as coverage of the Federal Reserve and economic news/trends
  • Execute on our current annual data studies and pitch ideas for new data studies or other coverage
  • Find new ways to incorporate Bankrates wealth of proprietary data into our content and broader site experience
  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability and integrity of data used in stories and reports
  • Create compelling and informative data visualizations such as charts, graphs, maps and interactive tools to present data in a clear and engaging manner
  • Create comprehensive documentation that outlines data sources, definitions, assumptions and any transformations made to the data
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior data editors and journalists on data journalism best practices
  • Leverage proprietary content platform and tooling to drive and track editorial efficiencies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as the Authority Building Team, SEO, PR and others to align on how Editorial content aligns with broader initiatives

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience working at a digital media company, with experience working with data
  • Experience setting up processes to ensure data integrity across a broader team (such as data storage and writing methodologies)
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of economics and the Federal Reserve
  • Ability to quickly turn around edits and follow developing news stories
  • Impeccable communication skills and a collaborative attitude
  • Comfortability making frequent prioritization decisions and shifting focuses under tight timelines
  • Analytical skills to measure content performance and identify growth opportunities
  • Interest in leveraging new technology in the content creation process
  • Strong understanding of AP style
  • Familiarity publishing in WordPress is a plus

Compensation:

  • Cash compensation range: $100,000 – $130,000*
    • NYC cash compensation range: $100,000 – $156,000
  • Note: actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
