Data Network Engineer (Charlotte, NC or Corning, NY or Remote)

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning’s businesses through IT enabled processes.
IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Data Network Engineer will configure and support network devices and solutions to align with Corning’s technology standards and meet the connectivity needs of our business.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Data Network Engineer will perform the following duties:
- Perform network design, configuration, deployment, execution and operational support of Network WAN and LAN environments.
- Support network solutions including routing, switching, WAN optimization, load balancing, SDDC and SDWAN environments.
- Design, configure, deploy, maintain, and administer network connectivity supporting Corning distributed locations, manufacturing plants and data centers, inclusive of WAN, LAN, network software, hardware, and tools.
- Implement and support Data Center Network LAN distribution, Internet Edge, Cloud Connectivity, and appliances.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
- Participate in root cause analysis on incidents, helping to drive identification of preventative actions meant to ensure problems don’t recur, and delivering on the tasks within those actions.
- Create, review, update, and vet technical functional specification, low-level network solutions design documentation and operations guides/runbooks, ensuring those are complete, correct and kept current.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For purposes of compliance with U.S. government requirements, this position is limited to U.S. citizens; U.S. permanent residents (aka green card holders); refugees officially admitted under U.S. law; or persons officially granted asylum under U.S. law.
- 5 years of experience analyzing requirements for implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting network devices/functions/tools/processes in a large enterprise or Telecommunications environment.
- 2 years supporting large, enterprise class datacenter network environments.
- 3 years performing Data Center and/or WAN network functions in a large, enterprise class environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Deep understanding of networking protocols, including IPsec, MACsec, HSRP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, QoS, 802.x and public/private key encryption
- Practical knowledge of TACACS, AAA, DDI, IPsec, 802.x, and public/private key encryption
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices
- Solid working knowledge and experience managing network infrastructure and network hardware including several of the following – Cisco, Aruba, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto, Riverbed, F5, Radware, Zscaler, Infoblox, and VeloCloud.
- Understanding of and practical knowledge of approaches to network security including packet filtering, access lists, firewalls, WAF, IDS, DDoS mitigation techniques
- Experience with SDDC, spine leaf architectures
- Excellent technical analysis, problem solving, and business relationship skills.
- Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
- Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
- Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others
- Must be willing to be on call available for after-hours support and an on-call rotation as defined by the team for any of the position responsibilities listed above.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Proficiency in wide area networking (including SDWAN), wireless networking, and industrial Ethernet
- Knowledge and experience with RESTful API’s, python, linux.
- Experience with IPv6 Design and implementations
- Experience with Cloud services and connectivity
- Experience working directly with Cisco data center products, Riverbed, Radware and VeloCloud SDWAN
- Experience configuring and using monitoring/alerting/forensic tools such as SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, Cisco Prime, NNMI, NetBrain, Wireshark
- Experience with scripting languages/toolchain automation products such as Python, Ansible, Terraform etc.
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols including EIGRP, BGP and OSPF
- Experience with IPv6 Design and implementations
- Understanding of pertinent IT frameworks, including ITIL, CMMI and COBIT
- Knowledge of network security
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A genuine passion for building systems that are simple and work well
- CCNA or higher Cisco Certification
TRAVEL:
- Up to 30% travel required for team meetings and other business functions that may require occasional international travel.
