Copywriter I

Title: Copywriter I

Location: Remote – USA

Position Summary

The Copywriter I position will collaborate with key stakeholders and other marketing team members (i.e., designer, social, accounts etc.) to craft engaging, informative, lead-generating copy for various marketing channels. The Copywriter I will also work on projects across digital, social, email, and traditional campaigns. This position reports to the Account Director overseeing the Academies at National University.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the integrated campaign concept and development process, including concepting and pitching concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops clear, persuasive copy across multiple channels including paid social media, landing pages, blog articles, video, email, and print, to drive leads and increase brand awareness.
  • Ensures copy:
    – Aligns with brand messaging, research, and insights
    – Is complete and accurate
    – Is consistent in style, quality, and tone of voice
    – Is optimized for search engines
    – Fosters engagement, retention, lead-generation, and user experiences.
  • Proofreads creative work of others ensuring accuracy and wholeness of project.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and other stakeholders to fully understand creative requirements
    and project objectives.
  • Keeps abreast of online and offline lead-generation writing for higher education, K-12, and nonprofit best practices.
  • Participate in brainstorm sessions to generate ideas to support brand strategy.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed including colleagues on the website, email, social, SEO, and paid media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Advertising, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience at a creative agency or in-house creative team.
  • Higher education experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Portfolio illustrating proficiency to conceptualize, develop, and deliver creative across multiple channels.
  • Self-starter and problem solver mentality.

Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Ability to participate as an active team member and organization and work toward a common goal.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Workfront, Jira, Basecamp, and others.
  • Experience across a variety of mediums including digital, social, print, blog, video, corporate communications, etc.
  • Proficiency with the Google Suite.
  • Experience and/or interest in working with creative teams including Art Directors & Graphic Designers, Copywriters, and/or Videographers & Editors.
  • Experience with platform best practices for email marketing and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with AP style guides.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of online/offline lead-gen writing and higher education best practices.

  • Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus working knowledge of career-related software technologies and strong familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to enthusiastically communicate with a wide range of individual constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrates solid written communication skills creating immaculate copy that stands out from the crowd.
  • Works independently and fosters a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using appropriate approaches for choosing a course of action or developing an appropriate solution; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.

Location: Remote

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency. Compensation Range:

Annual Salary: $50,790.00 – $68,570.00
