Barbaricum is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) based in Washington, DC with offices in Tampa, FL, and in Dayton, OH. The company currently executes 45 government contracts (more than half as prime) across three current lines of business – Cyber/Intel, Mission Support, and Integrated Communications. Barbaricum is seeking a Technical Writer to contribute to the DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office’s (CDAO) mission. CDAO’s Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) division provides guidance, tools, and expertise related to the ethical and effective use of data, analytics, and AI across the DoD. Under this mission, the CDAO RAI division requires support in multiple functional areas to ensure deliverables associated with RAI Tools, the RAI Ecosystem, and RAI Strategy and Policies are completed.

The Technical Writer will be responsible for collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including researchers, engineers, and product managers to ensure CDAO’s responsible AI tools and methodologies are effectively documented to meet the needs of users and stakeholders in the Department of Defense and beyond.

Barbaricum has been supporting CDAO for more than 3 years, including current support to the T&E Directorate and Resource and Management Office. This position is a new role on a team that will provide SETA support that focuses on enabling CDAO’s Responsible Artificial Intelligence objectives through subject matter expertise-enabled support.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to understand responsible AI technologies and methods and distill critical information into clear and accessible documentation.
  • Creates and maintains a range of technical documents including user guides, API documentation, release notes, and knowledge base articles.
  • Develops tutorials, whitepapers, and case studies to educate users on best practices for implementing responsible AI solutions.
  • Reviews technical documentation produced by contracted vendors for consistency, accuracy, and harmony with corpus of CDAO RAI products.
  • Gathers feedback from users and internal stakeholders to continuously improve documentation quality and usability.
  • Stays up to date with industry trends and best practices in technical writing and AI technology, as well as DoD, U.S. Government, and international policies as necessary.
  • Scrupulously follows security, classification, and public release policies and procedures to ensure documents are properly marked and handled.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the AI, machine learning, or software development domain.
  • Proficiency in documenting complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to translate technical jargon into clear and concise documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
