The Senior Underwriting Associate will provide support functions to the New Business and Renewal Underwriting Teams. This role will be task and project-oriented, encompassing both standard responsibilities and variable duties based on demand. The Senior Underwriting Associate will possess a working knowledge of all roles, processes, procedures, and systems used by New Business and Renewal Underwriters, enabling efficient and effective completion of assigned tasks. Responsibilities will include routing of Tasks & Cases, quote revisions, processing of one-time or short-term items, and more.

How Youll Do It

Support Process Improvement and Ongoing Calibration

  • Work with New Business and Renewal teams to streamline and improve processes as they pertain to quote revisions, binding policies, and other processes within the UW teams
  • Help test new system features and functionality and provide feedback to tech and process teams on UW team needs

Support the Underwriting Teams

  • NB and Renewal quote revisions
  • Distribution of Tasks & Cases to appropriate teams
  • Handling conversations with partner agents about NB and renewal quotes, processes, appetite and Pie systems
  • Create and facilitate underwriting associate training, directly or via maintenance of our SOP library and other training materials
  • Ad Hoc support during high volume times for various UW teams, i.e. close week for payroll, month end for new business, Quarter begin/end dates

The Right Stuff

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 4 years of P&C Insurance experience required, and 3 years of underwriting associate or relevant type work preferred
  • Concise, effective communication (written and verbal), including ability to have difficult conversations and provide concise justifications of decisions in files
  • Adaptability with technology and process changes: ability to apply knowledge of changes in day to day practices, ability to apply knowledge of rates and rate season and mandatory charges with a low and no error rate
  • Fluent in risk classification and related resources, comfortable in presenting and teaching to other team members
  • Strong Problem Solving skills: analyze and solve increasingly complex and nuanced problems by assessing unusual circumstances and identifying root causes.
  • Critical Thinking skills: leveraging data (when available) to inform decisions, applying integrative thinking skills to problems
  • Fully and consistently demonstrates testing and learning, creativity, and a relentless commitment to improvement. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways and suggests iterations on approach as appropriate
  • UW Boot Camp, NCCI Academy, and other relevant L&OD trainings. Workers compensation classification systems, manuals, and related state bureau websites
  • Fluency with internal LOA and referral requirements, Pie Pricing model, rating systems, and pricing knowledge. Fluent knowledge of company, system, internal changes
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time

Base Compensation Range
$65,000—$80,000 USD

Location Information

Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home.
