We are looking for a research assistant with expertise in research methods and project management to help Duolingo’s Efficacy Research Lab with critical tasks, including providing project management for internal research studies to evaluate Duolingo’s courses and assisting with data analysis.
This is a temporary freelance position (no benefits included). All work will be conducted remotely and hours are flexible.
You Will…
- Work closely with learning scientists in the Efficacy Research Lab to set up data collection pipelines, including putting materials in Qualtrics, facilitating piloting of materials, launching data collection via Qualtrics, and setting up testing on platforms of external testing providers
- Manage the continuous data collection process for research studies, including responding to participant emails, monitoring data pipelines, and processing participant payments
- Coordinate with external agencies involved in research studies, in particular, external testing providers (e.g., Avant Assessment)
- Help with data wrangling, data analysis and data visualization using Google Sheets and Python
- Format white papers in LaTeX for Duolingo’s efficacy website
- Help with preparing and proofreading research reports and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
You Have…
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in applied linguistics, linguistics, educational technology, cognitive psychology or another relevant field
- Experience in conducting research with human participants
- Experience in project management
- Strong communication skills
- Proficiency with LaTeX document preparation
- Proficiency with quantitative data analysis and visualization
- Proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas and pivot tables
- Proficiency with Qualtrics
- Proficiency with Python
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time management skills
- Ability to work 15-20 hours a week
Exceptional Candidates Will Have…
- PhD in applied linguistics, linguistics, educational technology, cognitive psychology or another relevant field
- Experience with conducting statistical analyses in Python, R, etc.
- Expertise in assessment science, applied linguistics, or educational technology
