Machine Learning Scientist - Recommender Systems- Remote

This role is remote eligible, which means you would work virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. As an ML Scientist within the Applied Machine Learning - Personalization team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts researching, developing, and applying cutting algorithms to personalize Best Buy customer's digital commerce experience. In this role you will combine your knowledge of ML and AI algorithms with strong research expertise to contribute to a team developing and operationalizing models that help customers find the right products at the right time. Recommender systems you build will power the experiences on the website and mobile app that are responsible for billions of dollars in revenues. You will help increase customer engagement by understanding the intent and intelligently optimizing the page layout, what SKUs are shown in the carousels and trading off between giving customers what they want vs allowing for serendipity. The AML Personalization team is geographically diverse with presence in the East and West Coast in addition to the Minneapolis HQ. We are open to candidates working remote within the US if you can align closely with the Central Timezone where most of our product & engineering stakeholders are. What you'll do: Work on end-to-end ML model lifecycle from translating business requirements, data analysis, feature engineering, model development, testing and deployment at scale. Read cutting edge research literature (e.g., RecSys conference papers) and apply them to real-life problems benefiting 100 million+ Best Buy customers. Work with imbalanced datasets (e.g., customer clickstream data), apply advanced sampling techniques to create labelled data, choose the right system & ML architecture and apply the right offline model evaluation metric (NDCG, HitRate, etc.) while balancing multiple competing business objectives (clicks, conversions, Revenue Per Visitor, etc.) Build ML multi-stage ML systems for e-commerce next item CTR predictions, compatible product basket prediction, session-based recommender systems, etc. while ensuring sub-second inference latencies. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related) or equivalent experience Atleast 2 years of experience building ML and/or AI driven products for one or more of the following: product recommender systems, sponsored ads, newsfeed algorithms, playlist suggestions, etc. Advanced degrees in relevant fields may be counted towards experience requirements. Strong machine learning and algorithmic background with a deep understanding of at least one of the following areas: supervised and unsupervised learning methods, reinforcement learning, deep learning, Bayesian inference, graphical modeling. 2 years of programming with at least one data science programming language (e.g., Python, R, Julia) Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related) Experience building production-grade ML models using one or more Deep Learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, etc. Experience building & deploying ML products over GCP, Azure or AWS Strong functional programming development skills (version control using Git, etc.) What's in it for you: We're committed to helping our people thrive at work and at home.
