Director - Data Science Development (Remote)

Reporting to the Chief Data & AI Officer the Director of Data Science Development directs and provides leadership for Data Science application development function including new product enablement and application enhancement. The Director oversees all aspects of Availity's Data Science development life cycle including design, prototyping, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of advanced statistical and machine learning solutions. They also manage the development and translation of business requirements into functional specifications for internal and external clients. They anticipate and analyze new trends in technology, assess the impact of emerging technologies on the business, provide solutions to address technology and business issues, and manage financial and technology resources of the company while ensuring the development of high-quality technology solutions. The Director is the primary liaison between the data science development team and all other business groups including engineering, information management, product management, product services, and senior management and will be called upon to serve in multiple roles in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial corporate environment. Director responsibilities to include hiring, goal setting, appraisal, development, and day-to-day coaching. The Director will also be required to carry out other duties, projects, or activities as specified by their management. Sponsorship, in any form, is not available for this position. Location: Remote US Why you want to work on this team: Because of Availity's unique position in the market you will have access to the data and workflow you need making innovation and integrations seamless This is a newly forming team and you will have the opportunity to directly impact how this team is being structured and the resources that we bring onboard To be qualified for this position: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field of study 8 years of experience in analytic application development which includes people and financial management responsibilities 5 years of experience in managing analytics teams and building relationships with people at a variety of organizational levels 3 years of hands-on experience in developing analytics solutions, preferably in areas of healthcare Data Science Excellent communication and presentation skills- ability to lead a team and present a compelling business case Understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies Understanding of Data Science and machine learning development methodologies, application design, and information architecture You will set yourself apart: Master's degree Knowledge in healthcare business and data Experience building out and managing a new Data Science and/or AI team You will be: Building out the newly forming Data Science team at Availity Directly impacting how Availity implements Data Science standards and practices Pioneering Availity's Data Science and AI focused teams with a focus on driving automation and helping users understand their next best action Managing diverse requirements, negotiate, and effectively articulate rationale and vision behind technical decisions that support the business Partnering closely with Product, Engineering and Design leadership to drive impact throughout the product development process with research and data Responsible for departmental planning, organizational design, and budget Advocating, evangelizing, and implementing modern Data Science and engineering practices Traveling to meet with internal and external stakeholders on a monthly cadence Availity culture and benefits: Availity is a certified "Great Place to Work"!
