Director, Big Data/ML Engineering - Remote U.S.

As the Director, Big Data/ML Engineering, working remote in Canada, you will be part of the Analytics and Insights (AIX) practice and will perform key leadership and mentorship role in the areas of advanced data techniques, including data modeling, data ingestion, data integration, data visualization, data governance, statistical methods, and implementation in cloud-based, traditional and hybrid architectures. The Director, Big Data/ML Engineering role is a highly visible and strategic position. Successful candidates are hands-on, process-oriented, and have outstanding analytical skills in developing tactical and strategic solutions. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in big data technologies and is also passionate about leading and mentoring a great group of engineers. What you'll be doing Perform key leadership and mentorship role in the areas of advanced data techniques, including data modeling, data ingestion, data integration, data visualization, data governance, statistical methods, and implementation in cloud-based, traditional and hybrid architectures. Develop a compelling vision for bringing actionable AI/ML solutions to our clients and advancing their digital transformations Initiate and foster business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors, and senior business executives Review, select and integrate next-generation technologies into the architectural strategy as needed. Work closely with the Data Science and Analytics teams to provide data required for developing, operationalizing, and managing ML models, and dashboards for customer facing applications and internal use. Lead the development and implementation of the data governance process. Governance must address data standardization and ways to address exponential data growth, and include establishing Data Owners and Stewards. Be an SME in technical and functional aspects of our insights platform and its integration requirements Proactively identify internal and external dependencies, issues, scope changes, and progress against project plan Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure accuracy of data, dashboards, and reports. Develop and expand our knowledge base and best practices for delivering data products Provide technical support to assist clients and partners during and post implementation Build and lead high-performing, agile teams focused on Big Data Engineering Devise talent strategy for the team identify resource gaps or inefficiencies, build hiring plan, recommend promotions, and manage performance for consistency with the needs and vision of the department. What you'll bring to us Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or other quantitative field with significant leadership experience 10 years of experience building data products and supporting analytics solutions (mastery of SQL, Python, Data Warehousing, experience with Big Data, stream processing) 5 years of managerial experience utilizing strong leadership skills, including mentoring, communication, decision-making, and project management. Strong fundaments in data structures, algorithms, automated testing, object-oriented programming, performance complexity, and implications of architecture on software performance Experience working on public cloud environments and associated deep understanding of Data and ML tools offered Knowledge of the Big Data technology landscape beyond the buzzwords; Experience with big data and analytics programming languages such as Python, R, Spark, NoSQL Experience with batch and real-time processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Apache Storm, Apache Kafka, etc.) A broad set of technical skills and knowledge across hardware, software, systems, and solutions development A proven track record of using quantitative analysis to impact key business or product decisions Solid grasp of and experience with implementing and operating software development methodologies Exceptional problem-solving skills: demonstrated ability to understand business challenges, structure complex problems, develop solutions A solid grasp of common statistical applications and methods (A/B tests and multivariate experiments, probabilities, regression) Understanding of Agile Software Development Lifecycle and project planning/execution skills Desire to thrive in a constantly innovating and changing environment Ability to partner and influence key business stakeholders at all levels of the organization Strong skills in team leadership and networking, ability to work across multiple organizations to accomplish diverse goals Exceptional presentation, written, and verbal communication skills Proven ability to understand the long-term ('big picture') and short-term perspective of situations What you can expect The anticipated range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $160,000 - $220,000. Actual compensation offers to a candidate may vary based upon geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill levels. This position is eligible to participate in an incentive program.
