Udacity is seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team responsible for developing and maintaining the core applications and services that drive our user experience. You will work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions that enhance the learning journey for our students. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to explore and integrate emerging technologies, including generative AI, to create more personalized and adaptive learning experiences.

Responsibilities:
? Develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
? Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design solutions.
? Optimize and enhance existing systems to improve performance and reliability.
? Implement and enforce best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
? Explore opportunities to leverage generative AI to improve backend processes or enhance learning outcomes.
? Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
? Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Tech Stack:
? Primarily GoLang with some Node and Ruby
? GraphQL and REST APIs
? Postgres, CockroachDB, and Redis
? AWS
? OpenAI
? CircleCI

What We Value:

? 3+ years of professional software engineering experience working hands-on in a product-oriented software engineering role, in live production code.
? Strong background in building scalable and low latency systems.
? Demonstrated expertise in designing, building, delivering, and maintaining production quality reliable and performant microservices.
? Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
? A genuine interest in using technology to enhance learning experiences and make education more accessible.
? Nice-to-haves: experience with Docker, Kafka, and integrating generative AI solutions.

Compensation: The maximum base pay for this position is $149,000, depending on experience and location.
