About the Job

The Automation Engineer is a development role with a strong emphasis on efficiently scaling out and maintaining OffSec’s infrastructure. This role will be part of a team focused on creating and scaling out new solutions that leverage multiple cloud environments and vendor services to deliver reliable services for staff and students.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Use Ansible and Terraform to scale production systems
  • Documents existing infrastructure as code
  • Assists the Dev, Devops, and SRE teams to document new infrastructure as code
  • Automate repetitive tasks to help reduce Toil
  • Optimize application and infrastructure performance though automation and tuning
  • Writes runbooks to automate repetitive tasks using Ansible and Terraform
  • Serves as a knowledge resource for the rest of the team on Ansible and Terraform
  • Evaluates new and emerging products, technologies and make recommendations concerning the introduction of new technologies
  • Stays up to date on new Ansible releases and how they affect the fleet
  • Assists in monitoring performance to address errors and address bottlenecks
  • Respond to and resolve infrastructure incidents and outages
  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure service reliability
  • Document incident post-mortems and implement preventative measures

Qualifications

  • Must be passionate about Ansible and using it to save the planet
  • 3-5 years Ansible experience
  • 3-5 years system administration experience
  • Experience using version control software (git, subversion, etc)
  • Tower/AWX experience
  • Experience supporting systems through a SDLC – Dev, Staging Prod workflows
  • Comfortable working in complex systems and environments
  • Experienced with multiple cloud hosting providers – AWS, Digital Ocean, RackSpace, etc.
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or other related field
  • Programing experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to present technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • System administration experience
    • MS Windows Based Systems
    • Linux Systems
    • VMWare

  • OSCP
  • Significant programming experience
  • Observability experience

Working conditions

This role is a full-time salaried position. Work hours for this position are flexible and will be performed from a home office.
